Claims that George Will believes the real reason that many conservatives now want to get rid of Lott isn't that he's too right-wing on race. It's that in his desire to keep his leadership, he's suddenly become too liberal on race.

I don't see that in the George Will column that just says Lott is too clueless to be a leader. Note that George Will didn't look at the videotape that shows Lott "reading" from a script. Lott making an off the cuff, unscripted remark has been a favorite defense but the CSPAN videotape shows him reading.
