President George W. Bush's approval rating has dropped to 53 percent, a five-point slide in a month, as an increasing number of Americans say the U.S. economy is more important than the war on terror, a new poll shows.
The survey of 2,528 adults from July 14 through Aug. 5 gave Bush a five-point edge -- 43 percent to 38 percent -- over an unnamed Democrat if the 2004 presidential election were to be held now, according to the poll by the Washington-based Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.
