Lieberman "We're in a three-way split decision"
Though the Connecticut senator had counted on independents for a stronger-than-expected showing in the primary, he came in fifth behind retired Gen. Wesley Clark and North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who were in a tight race for third place.
Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, sagging to fifth place, rejected advice from some advisers to abandon his bid.
