Texas Killer D's

Houston Chronicle -- Rep. Jim Dunnam of Waco, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and leader of the rebellion, said he has no feeling of "triumph" over the probable defeat of the redistricting bill. And he said it was Craddick's fault that other bills died in the crossfire.

"When we left, it became his choice -- are you willing to put redistricting aside for all this other legislation?"

Dunnam said the House rebels would have returned to Austin immediately if the Republicans had agreed to abandon the redistricting effort, and late Wednesday the Democrats released a letter to Craddick making that offer. But Craddick has said previously he would not negotiate on the matter.
