One of the purposes of war games is to learn what might happen and allow commanders to be prepared and get experience. That said it is sobering that when modeling an Iraq invasion the general playing Saddam Hussein was able to sink three carriers, many other ships, and kill thousands of US personal. How he did it. It is not as big a deal as they make it that the people running the simulation ignored results. The purpose of the simulation is to test new procedures and if previous results prevents the elements being tested from getting onto the field you have to ignore results to see how well the later elements being tested work. Of course, the write-up, which may not be available until months later, should cover all the many vulnerabilities the war game uncovered.
