NY Times -- Anyone Seen Any Democrats Lately?

I disagree. The reasons Democrats left the debate was because of a stunned reaction to the election grab and the reaction of the media and most people that Democrats should move beyond that and wait and see what happened. Just as democratic opposition to the President was beginning to stir 9/11 happened and for about a year Democrats try to be in solidarity, presenting a bipartisan front. Just as this was badly fraying, the President attempts to plunge us into a war with a country everyone hates but was prepared to ignore. Democrats had been stunned by a series of political body blows. The upside is that there is a slow upswell of people increasing disturbed by this administrations policies. There is also now a crowd of Democrats eager to take on Bush in 2004.
