The Salt Lake Tribune -- Washington Merry-Go-Round

"Geography and political and economic systems have placed the United States in a position of power unprecedented since the days of the Roman Empire. Then, the Pax Romana (Peace of Rome) calmed the world for 200 years. Today, the "Pax Americana" is doing likewise. It is being accomplished through benevolent strength, not consensus. If the United States relied upon the consensus of other nations to act, the world would be a more dangerous place. Rather, the United States must covet and protect its sovereignty and enforce the peace of the world through U.S.-led coalitions."
