Emergency Heart and Blood Pressure Diet

My new diet to prevent another stroke, and keep me alive until I qualify for county health benefits is a modified low-carb diet.

Think South Beach or Atkins or Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program with stricter guidelines.

The modifications would begin with only lean meat, not a speck of grease. A limited amount of olive oil.
Zero sugar.
No caffeine.
No added salt, check food labels for minimal salt at all.

Must eat six small meals a day.
Must have four slices of whole-wheat high-fiber bread a day.
Lots of water - 8 glasses a day.

Several high-carb items can be included:
Fresh fruit to only include -
Apple
Cherries
Grapefruit
Peach
Pear
Plum.
Grapes and oranges are borderline - not everyday.

Other low Glycemic index foods permitted:
Pumpernickel bread (not a replacement for high-fiber wheat bread.)
All-Bran cereal
Barley is only grain
Chickpeas
Kidney beans
Lentils
Spaghetti(!) but not Macaroni or Linguine. (I am surprised at allowing spaghetti.)
Dry roasted unsalted peanuts (recommended).

Celery is recommended. As in all low-carb diets vegetables should be the mainstay.

Multi-vitamin/mineral and magnesium supplements. Low-carb diets are bad for kidney stones, magnesium helps prevent this.

I will note this also works out to be a low calorie diet In six days I have lost six pounds.
