Some thoughts on local race results

Overall the better candidate in the two most publicized races won and they are both good progressives.

There is quite a bit of sour grapes from Greg over his candidate's loss. I think it is much better to have a candidate win who was openly supported by a gay friendly service union than one with all the ties to privatization and out-sourcing that Jay Aiyer had.

Dos Centavos congratulates Sue but has some reservations over the amount of money SEIU spent and had supported Jay originally.

The other race that was interesting and significant was for the seat for Moreno's unexpired term in the Texas House. This means it is up for grabs again next year and the winner will have to file now for reelection. Ana Hernandez had the advantage of more relevant experience, more endorsements and a better group of corporate supporters. Laura Salinas lost my support when her big backer turned out to be the GOP tort "reformists."

There is now a Democratic majority on Houston City Council which counts as a win and it appears the less conservative of GOP Houston city council candidates won.
