Inquirer -- Hollywood studios seek to ban DVD copying software

Here we go again, the studios claim the software is a piracy tool, while the software company, 321 Studios, says the product has legal uses.

321 Studios has challenged the constitutionality of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and asserted it's free speech rights under the First Amendment.

Making the case for the defense, one lawyer for the film companies said DVDX-Copy is like a digital crowbar. Crowbars are not illegal, it is how you use a crowbar that makes it illegal.
