An al-Qaeda linked group plotted to attack Sydney Olympics.

TERRORIST organisation Jemaah Islamiyah planned to attack the Sydney Olympics but was talked out of it by the group's Australian chief, it was reported yesterday.

The plan was engineered by Asian terror mastermind Riduan Isamuddin, also known as Hambali, the operations leader of JI.

Hambali was said to be "bitterly disappointed" as he had already selected and trained a team for the attack.
