Stoutdem: Political info from a stout Democrat in Dallas Texas
"Politics is the only game for adults." -- Robert A. Heinlein
"...Landrieu was asked how it felt to beat the White House. She smiled broadly before replying, "Great." Her communication and policy director ... was less reticent. "We beat the White House. Do you realize the message that has sent the White House?" ... "In her victory speech, Landrieu told the cheering Fairmont crowd, "A light has shone that the Democratic Party is alive and well," referring both to her victory and that of Rodney Alexander. ... "A great light has gone on in the United States. ... People can see the dangers of partisan, poison politics," Landrieu said. Her TV and radio ads in the past week denounced the Republicans and Terrell for attacking her faith and integrity."
In her campaign this fall, she "told Louisianans she had voted with popular President Bush about 75 percent of the time." As a result she was almost knocked out along with all of the other me-too Democrats in close elections this November. "That strategy kept black voters at home in large numbers on primary day, their leaders complaining that Landrieu sounded like a Republican. For the runoff, Landrieu fired her strategists and launched a more aggressive attack in a bid to appear more independent."
Solidifying black support and running for the people as an aggressive independent paid off.
