The Business Manager as President

My brother and I have been thinking that Bush is like a lot of idiots we have been associated with who are these new-style managers. They believe if they keep saying something long enough, and work hard enough, whatever they want will happen even if they lack real knowledge of the situation. There is a place for hard work and goals and determination but there is also a need for some serious thinking first. These managers seem to skip that step.

Bush, Powell, and Rumsfeld's "broad coalition" to fight this war and their smug insistence they would get a majority of the Security Council on their side are perfect illustrations. Maybe they are not so much lying as misleading themselves.

TAP has Mary Lynn F. Jones calling him a rule breaker.

Bush's business background may be partly to blame for his actions. Executives often think they can just change the system or fudge the numbers if things don't add up the way they're supposed to. (Remember Enron?) But if such behavior can be dangerous for a company and its stockholders, it's much more so for a country and its citizens. Bush's rule changing has already alienated the United States from much of the rest of the world. After the September 11 terrorist attacks, almost all countries expressed solidarity with the United States. Now they're burning Bush in effigy, and the future of NATO and the United Nations is seriously in question.

Maybe an MBA isn't what we need in a President.
