WashPost -- Appeals Court Weighs Bush's War Powers

It would be good for this to go to the Supreme Court and see if we get a good ruling on when a declaration is and isn't necessary. There have been only five legally declared wars and over a hundred undeclared military actions.

CNN -- Republicans Consider Balancing the Budget by Massive Cuts in Government Programs?

I somehow sense these are not business entitlements that would be cut, only programs for the weak and powerless.

LATimes -- Bush Urges Senate Ban on Judicial Filibusters

Perhaps a good idea if it took affect for the next President. A better option would be all appointments need 60 votes to force all appointees to be closer to the mainstream. I would also prefer a ban on politically active judges but I see that as unlikely and possibly unconstitutional.

Key Senators Seek Tax Cuts Less Than Half Size of Bush's

I wouldn't mind a raise in the standard deduction or perhaps dependent credits but that is it - nothing else. These would also put more money in the hands of those who spend and need it. There is already written into law from the last tax cut reductions in the upper-income tax rates that are still coming into effect so the rich are already taken care of. Democrats are for tax cuts, just fiscally responsible tax cuts for those who need it.
