Someone else who respects his ex-wife

I am enormously attracted by the perceptions and intelligence of my
ex-wife. We are rarely at serious odds and mostly it's because I've
got it wrong. But not this time. I hate Bush and she likes him. It's
been an argument we've debated for months.

Today I changed her mind -- with just one simple question:

"Should we re-elect a president who is so
reviled abroad that he cannot travel overseas?"

Her response was wonderful -and illuminating: "John, you've got me.
No, we cannot do that. I agree. We can't have a President who is as
hated as is George Bush. I won't vote for him."

So far, millions of swing voters have not connected the dots between
those who protest so vigorously abroad and those who protest here ---
that good governance is impossible when the President is deeply hated
-from Prague to Perth, from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon.

It's why we need 50,000 protesters at every single Bush campaign stop
in August, September and October; and 20,000 at each one in May, June and July.

el - I had been leaning in the opposite direction, that marches and protest rallies have no effect, don't change any minds. Depending on how it is organized and how the media reports them they may harden attitudes or have a negative effect. I will re-think that.
