Congress Adjourned Officially (washingtonpost.com)

The 107th Congress adjourned today after giving final approval to legislation creating a Department of Homeland Security and blocking a Democratic move to extend unemployment benefits that are due to expire shortly after Christmas.

Note that by making technical changes in the Homeland Security Bill it could have also accepted the more substantial changes in the Bill Democrats and moderate Republicans wanted but delayed debate on until January, or never.
