CNN.com - Iraqi ambassador: U.S., Britain 'trump up' facts
"Let me affirm that Iraq's strategic decision to rid itself of weapons of mass destruction was indeed taken in 1991," he countered. The inspection agency at that time worked for eight years, and Iraq handed over many of those weapons for destruction between 1991 and 1994, he said.
In addition to that, Iraq unilaterally destroyed weapons in summer 1991, including all weapons "proscribed in the biological area," he said.
"This is the central fact of the matter. Since then, nothing has been unearthed to contradict that central fact," Aldouri told the Security Council. "It is for the accusers to prove otherwise if they have any evidence in hand."
In response to Powell's point regarding Iraq's VX nerve agent program, Aldouri said Iraq had no VX weapons to declare because none remained to be declared. Baghdad "never produced stable VX and never weaponized VX," he said.
"No one has any evidence to the contrary," he said, adding that Powell "should not jump to such hasty conclusions."
Aldouri charged that even U.N. chief weapons inspector Hans Blix had said he doesn't agree with those who say that Resolution 1441 "is a disarmament resolution and not an inspection resolution."
The Iraqi minister said statements of the U.S, Britain and others at Friday's session have created a "state of confusion" in the Security Council.
"The U.S., the U.K. and those standing on their side are unable to present any evidence proving the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. They have also not been able to mask their own private agenda in the region and the world."
I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Iraq on this. There has been no evidence presented that Iraq has produced weapons of mass destruction since 1991. That's sad when i have to agree with Aldouri over Powell.
