Salon.com War Room

The Republicans needed 60 votes to prevail on Bill Frist's cloture motion. They got 72. Democrats voting in favor of cloture -- which is to say, against a filibuster -- included Daniel Akaka, Max Baucus, Jeff Bingaman, Robert Byrd, Maria Cantwell, Tom Carper, Byron Dorgan, Daniel Inouye, Tim Johnson, Herb Kohl, Mary Landrieu, Joe Lieberman, Blanche Lincoln, Ben Nelson, Bill Nelson, Jay Rockefeller and Ken Salazar. [I've highlighted surprises to me.]

There were no defections among Democrats with an eye on the White House in 2008
Major hurts for the filibuster campaign was the well-planned and well-executed GOP media campaign and that last Wednesday the Senate Dem caucus decided not to filibuster. Under intense pressure from activists Kerry and Kennedy from the most liberal state did a fast reverse and mounted a weak last minute attempt.

My opinion: The DC Democrats don't get it. Most are still trying to play like the GOP hasn't become a ravenous beast demanding more and more power.
