Robert A. Pape makes the New York Times
Too long ago to find I referenced his study "Dying to Win" that showed terrorist attacks are against occupiers and supporters of occupiers and are often done by relatives of those harmed by governments. He concluded there is "little connection between suicide terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism."
"No matter how you slice it, it's American policy that's underneath this, not Islamic fundamentalism."
His new study shows that Al Qaeda is pursuing a successful and stepped-up campaign since 9/11 to compel the withdrawal of Western military forces from the Middle East.
