Stealth Tax Election in La Porte

The city and school district of La Porte are having an election but good luck finding any information about it. The only notice they are having an election online is buried deep down in the official websites. There may have been a notice in the local free weekly paper which was delivered in the rain with no protection. There was a notice in the water bill you may have seen if you don't rent and if you pay attention to notices stuck in there.

In addition to the seat races, all but one uncontested, they are sneaking in a request for a 0.25% sales tax increase to be dedicated to street improvements. The only contested race is one for the school district. Voting at city hall today, Saturday Monday-Friday next week - other locations later.

Disclosure: I am not that in favor of sales taxes, particularly dedicated funds. I am opposed to important measures being voted on with no publicity. I know nothing about any of the candidates except that my sister who works for a school district says the female at the top of the ticket has a good reputation.

(Been very busy and maybe this weekend I can write about the continued violations of the 1st Amendment in Pasadena.)
