Pasadena Bans Political Speech at City Hall

The Pasadena Texas city council and Mayor Johnny Isbell unanimously passed on second reading a new ordinance banning political speech at City Council meetings.

Councilman Ralphn Riggs who opposed the first reading was not there. The council ignored questions about the constitutionality of the speech ban and the difficulty of defining "political speech." Speech bans by other Texas cities have a poor court record when challenged. There is no link to a news report yet.

Area Five Democrats of Pasadena will meet March 18th. They have not been strong on civil liberties but someone may say a few words before discussing the SD-11 convention on the 29th to elect delegates to the State Democratic Convention.

This follows up my previous report on the proposed speech ban.
