That So-Called-Liberal Houston Chronicle
There were two lawsuits filed against the state of Texas in the last couple of days.
The NAACP, the Texas Democratic candidate for attorney general David Van Os, and the Texas Civil Rights Project filed suit saying the lack of paper ballots violated the state constitution. Here - (*) is the Houston Chronicle story.
Can't get the link to work? That is because there isn't one but here is a brief Austin Statesman story about it.
Some Republican conservatives than filed suit saying that Texas was violating the Constitution by not adequately holding down state spending despite the fact Texas has a mechanism in place to do that.
Here is the Houston Chronicle story on that.

The difference in treatment could be explained in several ways.
1) The budget story has a Houston connection, while the electronic voting story does not.
2) The budget story displays sme serious rifts in the Texas GOP, while the electronic voting story is simply a partisan stunt.
3) The budget suit has merit, while the electronic voting suit does not.
1 - OK
2 - Yes and No
3 - NO
There is less merit to the budget suit and it will probably be tossed as a procedure has been set up to apply the Constitutional restraints. You and some others just don't like that mechanism. On the other hand, it can easily be argued that the Texas Constitution does not permit the present system of voting. It was also not just a partisan stump but had the NAACP and another group and citizens involved.
Stop and consider and do a bit of research. Do you really want the unsecure precinct voting machines kept overnight at a precinct judge's house? How confident are you of their security considering some of the reports and demonstrations? Keep in mind I am a precinct judge and I have kept the JBC's that run the polls overnight in my house.
Uh, i am a precinct chair, as a matter of fact. Those machines sit in my garage for three days, as a matter of fact -- with two numbered and registered seals on them that must not be broken or it will bring down all sorts of shit upon my head.
So I would say I feel completely secure about them.
