OMG! If Amendment 2 passes have the conservatives wiped out all Texas Marriages?!
The People's Republic of Seabrook: Beware the law of unintended consequences, eh?
A close reading of Amendment 2 and a comparison of the language to other states that have passed similar marriage laws reveals Amendment 2 accidentally outlaws all marriages
Section 1 defines marriage as only between a man and a women.
Section 2 outlaws this and similar arrangements.
You might want to tell your friends.
ADDED because some people weren't sure of the language:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by adding Section 32 to read as follows:
Sec. 32. (a) Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.
(b) This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage.
