Seniors Give Boos To Bush's Medicare Plan

To hear the nearly 200 senior citizens gathered at the Patchogue firehouse yesterday, there are two groups in trouble for supporting the newly passed Medicare prescription drug bill: the members of Congress who voted for it, and the AARP, its major promoter.

"It takes what has been a defined benefit and turns it into a variable benefit, with a variable cost, where seniors will be given a voucher to shop for a prescription drug benefit," Bishop said. "It is for that reason I voted against it."
