Last Best Chance

Short movie on Al Qaida getting nuclear weapons.

Very timely but sometimes blames unnamed government bureaucrats instead of the GOP House leadership and the Bush administration for nuclear materials not being safeguarded. Also ties into the overall GOP meme of "you should be scared, give us more power." Best viewed as aimed at GOP faithful who have been supporting congressmen who keep cutting the budget to lock down weapons grade material.

Can also be viewed as a GOP fantasy - a strong Republican President actually engaged, smart and taking action. Better than the liberal fantasy West Wing where a Democratic liberal president doesn't enact any liberal legislation.

One other objection to this short film is that it gets some technical details wrong - confusing megaton bombs with kiloton bombs and confusing radiation bombs with atomic bombs and hydrogen bombs.

I give mixed support for this which will be on HBO next Monday and you can request a free DVD now. The threat is real and by far my biggest beef with the Bush presidency is that he hasn't done enough about it and he and the GOP Congress has taken actions that have increased it.
