Miguel Estrada Withdraws Name, Doesn't Release Papers
Miguel Estrada, President Bush’s embattled nominee for a federal appeals court judgeship, withdrawn his name from consideration on Thursday, ending a bitter battle with Senate Democrats who blocked his nomination.
Democrats had said they would not allow a final vote until the Justice Department released internal memos he had written while serving in the office of the solicitor general in the administration of President George H.W. Bush. They argued that the documents were necessary in order to assess Estrada’s fitness to be a judge.
EL - Rove will likely use his failure to be appointed to judgeship to try to get latino votes.
