Mississippi Sheriff Charged For Actually Helping People After Katrina

A Mississippi sheriff is expected to plead guilty today for diverting ice trucks to hurricane survivors. The FEMA trucks had been waiting for hours for FEMA officials to decide where to send them.

Sheriff Billy McGee said he had agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor on the promise that he and his deputies would not be charged with felonies.

The sheriff says the governor personally wanted him prosecuted, possibly for the brief arrest of a Mississippi Guardsman who tried to stop the trucks from leaving.
