Why Is the US in Iraq?

The White House is now admitting the greatest threat to security is sectarian violence, not terrorists or even insurgents. So why are we policing a Civil War for $8 billion a month?

The Army War College has said that the Iraq mission is a distraction and is actually helpful to the enemy in the war on terror. So again, why are we still in Iraq? Saving face? Declare victory now and start withdrawing troops.
