Religious and Public Stations Battle for Share of Radio Dial I had wondered why KPFT was no longer also in College Station. I was visiting my Dad's and the Houston signal fades out. The non-profit Christian stations have found that they can kick non-profit repeater stations off the air if they build a real station. Wildmon has been a big problem for diversity and intelligent shows for years. I want to encourage local stations but in many cases these small towns are getting multiple religious stations and alternative news sources are disappearing. The other real problem is that while the rules were probably designed to encourage local content - the new religious stations are in fact repeater stations in all but name. Two new stations in one community ihave one employee to flip the switches and pick up the satellite feed. Perhaps NPR and Pacifica didn't realize all they needed to do was to hire one part-time person and they could be a local station?
Support KPFT or KUHF in Houston.
