New Maps for old

Texas has to redistrict the border because of the dilution of Latino voters under the DeLay plan. The new state plan is notable for splitting Austin into three Republican districts and attempting to remove another white Democrat - the DeLay plan all over again. Here is a report with a map of that plan. Oh, and get a clue reporters - it could easily change the make-up of Texas Reps again as Doggett by design would not have an easy time. The headline is misleading in that a Latino Democrat or even a Republican could have an easier time getting elected. This is somewhat similar to Chris Bell being replaced with Black Democrat Al Green under DeLay's plan. No problem with Black or Latino Democrats, we could use more of them, but it is a GOP SOuthern tactic to have Democrats being seen as the minority only party.

The Houston Chronicle had a decent article about all the plans and their effects on politicians.

An excellent PDF with maps that analyzes all or most of the plans is here. Thanks to Mustafa Tameez for creating the report and Charles Kuffner for hosting it.
