Short Takes - Politics

Dirty Tricks GOPer Pleads Guilty

David Bossie, dirty trickster who spread filth, is still active in GOP.
After opposing political speech bans he is now trying to ban movie ads. He is also out promoting a book - How Clinton was responsible for 9/11.

Dowd - Fast Escape From the Green Zone
Mr. Bremer's escape from the Green Zone was uncomfortably reminiscent of the last days of Saigon. No one was hanging onto the skids of helicopters, but the mood was furtive, not festive. American troops are still trapped in Iraq and being killed there, and 5,600 ex-soldiers are being involuntarily recalled in America's undeclared draft.

Someone Finally Points Out "Dude, Where's that Elite?"

Religion and Kerry is getting a lot of notice in the blogosphere.
Digby, Upper Left and Steve Gilliard all do an admirable job of putting to lie the notion -- enthusiastically trumpeted by the likes of Amy Sullivan -- that Kerry and progressives in general are somehow inadequately religious. Speaking of the Bush Administration Kerry asked:

The scriptures say, what does it profit, my brother, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?" Kerry told the congregation at New North Side Baptist Church. "When we look at what is happening in America today, where are the works of compassion?"

Bush's response was predictably shrill and ridiculous:

Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said Kerry's comment "was beyond the bounds of acceptable discourse and a sad exploitation of Scripture for a political attack."

As usual, when faced with a criticism, the Bush Administration runs from the substance and attempts to smear the critic.
