DeLay Quits, GOP will organize write-in campaign
Quitter, what will all the right wackos around here say now?
Now, my understanding of Texas law is that he can't just quit and get his name removed, the only way it comes off the ballot at this time is if he dies. I could be mistaken but this is why I thought he said he moved to Virginia thinking there was a loophole.
The only thing I liked about my move to La Porte was the chance to vote against him.

It's all there in The TEC Chapter 143. A candidate can withdraw from a race and have his name removed from the ballot any time up to the SOS certification of the ballot. If the candidate withdraws, no replacement can be named. The ado was over being declared ineligible and that's where dying and being found guilty of a crime come in. If that happens he is declared ineligible and and therefore is replaceable on the ballot. That's what the lawsuit was all about.
