DeLay's name is off, at least two candidates mulling write-ins
My question has been answered, DeLay can take his name off the ballot. The only two major Republican challengers seriously considering a write-in campaign are Houston City Council member Shelley Sekula-Gibbs and Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace. Both have baggage but big egos. Sekula-Gibbs reportedly had the support of bad homebuilder Bob Perry and his GOP candidate stuffing wallet. Let's see if he wants to throw a bunch of money into this difficult race now.
Anyone can run as a write-in candidate and Democrats could look into the possibility of supporting a non-entity voter confusion write-in candidate. Or is it only the GOP that plays that game? The likelihood of a write-in candidate winning is remote and would probably require at least a million dollar war chest against Democratic candidate Lampson who currently has about two million for his much easier campaign. In looking at voting statistics for DeLay, which I did just after his last election, I think I noticed that over 70% were Party votes. Write-in candidates don't get the party vote but must persuade every individual voter to click on write-in and then spell the candidates name.
