Pragmatic Americans Liberal and Conservative on Social Issues


Latest Pew Massive Survey finds Americans in the middle on issues. Slight majority favors civil unions, majority say abortion legal but rare, less than one in eight support total ban.

The Pew study suggests that Democrats would benefit from moving center on the social issues. A broad based Democratic Party that allows for a diversity of opinion on social issues while emphasizing economic populism could gain a governing majority. The party that wins over the working and middle class social moderates will dominate American politics.
