Why Class Warfare Won't Work for Democrats
Stephen Rose with a clear explanation why pressing for economic justice in the sense of programs for households with incomes $40,000 and under is a loser for Democrats. In order to be sure of getting a majority of votes they have to be aiming for policies that appeal to those making $85,000 or less. Even $60,000 or less is only 39% of the population, not to mention voters where vote participation skews upwards by income. This is not to say that GOP policies that are giving tremendous breaks to the millionaire class should be winning. They are counting on the political financing they get from the millionaire class and the soundbytes it buys, no clear Democratic middle-class proposals, and a consistent if misleading frame.
