Big D means Democrats again
Being a few years in advance of Houston in the Texas demographic wave, Dallas has now turned Democratic. Harris County showed Democratic improvements but no county wide winners although Orlando Sanchez's opponent Richard Garcia came very close. (I ran across Garcia at the late Harris County Democratic victory party as he was putting his name stickers on everyone.) That was probably more a vote against Orlando who has no qualifications to be county treasurer. This is just a figurehead position in a job that doesn't do much of anything and for whom Garcia was running to get rid of. Maybe Orlando is qualified for that.
UPDATE - Perry Dorrell expands on the Harris County turn which has the local Republicans worried. Our statewide candidates and party did not have the money for a Latino outreach program and it really hurt Bell. I complained about the 2000 election and the 2002 and the 2004 and now the 2006, Democrats are well behind the GOP in going after the Latino vote. An analysis of this election doesn't look that good even if Baselice is a lying SOB who works for Perry mainly good at spin - Perry did not get 36% of the Hispanic vote as Baselice claims.
