Lampson Bucks Democratic Leadership, Pushes Vote On SAVE Act

Unlike many Republican-lite positions Lampson has taken, I actually support him on this. Now if he will only mention the environment in his literature to toss a bone or two to Democrats to give a reason to support him instead of merely being the lesser of two evils.

Bucking his own party leadership, Rep. Nick Lampson (D-Stafford) pressed Congress yesterday to take up legislation that would crack down on businesses that hire illegal immigrants and enforce existing immigration laws.

Opposing the House Democratic leadership position, Lampson added his name to a petition that would force a vote on the Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement Act of 2007, also known as the “SAVE Act.” The SAVE Act, which Lampson co-sponsored last October, provides a 3-point plan to reduce illegal immigration through a strict emphasis on border security, employer verification and interior enforcement.
